Chapter Six

Steele didn’t want to remember, but he couldn’t help himself. He recalled their bodies, the perfection of human flesh which he had always taken for granted. He remembered the high they’d been on after the meeting with Dr. Zeus, who had praised their part in the detailed work on the metallurgical analysis of the odd material they’d discovered on the beach the previous month. He’d told them it was a breakthrough and its components would lead to major changes in reconstructive surgery.

Neither of them had been quite sure what the doctor had in mind, but they were both stoked by his praise for their part in the recent studies. By the time Nikki and Paz had left Dr. Zeus’s office, they were so shot with adrenaline they never even made it back to their apartment before the sizzling heat of sexual need overpowered them. They managed to make it to the elevator before Nikki ripped Paz’s shirt open and drew a tight little tit into his mouth. His hands had worked at the speed of light at the opening to his pants as he’d released the nipple and quickly dropped to his knees. He couldn’t wait to have Nikki in his mouth, to taste him, to suck him deep.

He’d looked up at Paz as he pushed his jeans and underwear down over his hips, and grinned. “We’re gods, Paz, fucking gods. Can you imagine the breakthroughs we’re going to be part of? Everyone will know our names. Everyone in the whole fucking world.” And then he sucked Paz’s dick into his mouth, heard the other man’s groan, felt his hands in his hair, encouraging him to take him deeper still.

Nikki had never felt so full of possibilities as he had at that moment. He’d felt indestructible. His work was praised by their mentor, he had his lover groaning beneath his mouth and there was nothing he couldn’t do. The best decision he’d ever made was in coming to Crete. But he’d followed the career of Dr. Zeus for years, from high school, all through college, and when the chance for an internship at the doctor’s top secret facility on Crete had come, there’d been no way he wouldn’t apply for a choice spot.

At that time sex had played a very small role in the plans Nikki had for himself. And then he’d met the quiet, enigmatic, and mystical Paz Jones. So different from himself, so attractive, and they’d been drawn to each other almost from the first day. Opposites that couldn’t keep their hands off each other. Colleagues, whose minds had meshed so perfectly in the laboratory, even when they disagreed, the sexual sparks that flew between them only fed the passion.

Paz was the type of man who liked to move slowly, to study each and every intricate part of a problem before settling on a solution. And then rethinking it before committing. He was the one who meditated before proceeding, whose spirituality Nikki had always admired, but had never been able to understand completely.
